The Seng Khasi Higher Secondary School started as the Seng Khasi Free Morning School on 20th May 1921 and education was imparted free of cost to the people and was held only in the morning. The Founder of this school was Babu Rash Mohan Roy Nongrum, a stalwart of the Seng Khasi Organization an Indigenous Organization set up to uphold and maintain the Khasi way of thinking, culture and tradition. He served the school with true dedication and grit from the day of his inception as the first Secretary-cum-Head Teacher till the end of 1954 when he retired due to ill health and old age. The school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School in 1960 under the Assam Board of School Education. It was then the only Higher Secondary School in the Khasi Hills. The Higher Secondary Section was dissolved when Meghalaya attained its statehood but was re-established in 1995 in Science Stream under the Meghalaya Board of School Education.
Today the School has grown in strength and is trying its best in keeping pace with modern day Science and Technology maintaining the perfect balance of tradition and modernity of the generation. With a dedicated team of teachers, the school is now in the ninth decade of its existence with students striving hard for their goal towards a better future.
